Zenobia Elizabeth Jackson Greene

Chesapeake – In the early morning hours of January 19, 2007, God reclaimed his precious treasure, Zenobia Elizabeth Jackson Greene. She was one of eight children born to the late Mary Carr Jackson and Bennie Jackson of Berkley. She was the wife of the late Herman Lee Greene, Sr. of New Iberia, Louisiana.

Zenobia attended Norfolk Public Schools and was a proud graduate of Booker T. Washington High School where she participated with the I. Sherman Greene Chorale. She completed her undergraduate studies in Elementary Education at Virginia State College in Petersburg, Virginia, where she also became a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. She continued her graduate studies at Boston University in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Zenobia began her career illustrious teaching career in rural Tappahannock, Virginia. After a year in this beautiful rural setting, she returned to her Norfolk roots and began a rewarding 42-year teaching career with Norfolk City Public Schools. She was a beloved first grade teacher for the greater portion of her career.

Mrs. Greene was a wonderful mother that adored her two surviving children: her son, Herman Greene, Jr., and her daughter, Pamela Greene-Stewart, and her beloved son-in-law Michael W. Stewart. She also leaves behind two brothers, James

My fondest memories of Aunt Zee are of her taking her vitamins, feeding me, and just listening to her answer the telephone. She had the most cheerful voice and it always made you feel welcomed.

My heart goes out to you today.

Your mother was a wonderful lifelong friend of my mother and aunt. Such fond memories of her smile, laughter, and fun personalitiy. I pray that God gives you strength to to through this. She will be missed.

Mrs. Greene was a very sweet and loving person. IDenise will always cherish the times we spent laughing and talking to one another. Even during her illness she maintained her loving spirit. Heaven has trully gained a phenomenal angel.

You will be truly missed. I will alway remember coming to Norfolk as a child with my Mom, Dad, sister & Brother and Aunt Helen to spend those Sunday with you and your family.
