SCHLAG, William Thomas Tommy, 84, of Wheeling, WV, died in Good Shepherd Nursing Home on Tuesday, October 14, 2008. He was born in Wheeling on September 8, 1924. Tommy was the son of Raymond and Eva Schlag who preceded him in death.
He is survived by two brothers, Charles Schlag of Malvern, PA and Donald Schlag of Wheeling, two sisters, Sr. Eva Marie Mary Evelyn Schlag, C.S.J., and Elizabeth Nelson, both of Wheeling. He is also survived by ten nieces and nephews, sixteen grand nieces and nephews and four great-grand nieces and nephews.
Tommy was a lifelong member of St. Michael Parish, Wheeling, a veteran of World War II, in the 5th Army Air Force. He was honorably discharged with five battle stars: Sador, Herlandia, Layete, Boona and Neumford. Tommy was owner, operator of Schlag’s Greenhouses in Wheeling.
Family and friends will be received at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff St. on Friday from 1-4pm.
Funeral liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 am at the Bishops Chapel at Mt. Calvary Cemetery with the Rev. H. Joseph Wilhelm, S.M. as celebrant, interment will follow at Mt. Calvary.
