REMKE, William , Jr., 82, of Moundsville, WV died Thursday, October 30, 2003 in Reynolds Memorial Hospital, GlenDale, WV. He was born June 13, 1921 in GlenDale, the son of the late William F. and Sylvia Koontz Remke. Mr. Remke was employed by the US Government at the ammunition depot in Portsmith, VA, from 1941 until 1944 and served in the US Navy from 1944 until 1946. In 1948 he founded Remke Inc. and was owner until the time of his retirement in 1983. He was a member of the Moundsville Baptist Church where he was a former trustee and also served as an usher for over 50 years. He was a member of the American Legion, Earl Francis Post #3, the VFW Post# 437 both of Moundsville and the Moundsville Eagles Aerie #499. He was a former member of the Moundsville Planning Commission and the Marshall County Planning Commission. Mr. Remke was also a former member and Past President of the Moundsville Rotary Club and a former member of the Marshall County Chamber of Commerce.In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Gary Philabaum. Surviving are his beloved wife of 61 years, Helen I. Kibert Remke; a son, Philip K. Remke and his wife Loretta of Moundsville; a daughter, Judith Ann Hayhurst and her husband Kyle of Washington, WV; three grandsons, David Hayhurst of NC, Christopher Remke and Matthew Remke, both of Moundsville; two granddaughters, Deann Riddle of Lubeck, WV and Stephanie Remke of Moundsville; three great grandchildren Hunter Riddle, Walker Riddle and Laken Riddle all of Lubeck, WV; a sister, Barbara Philabaum of Wheeling; a brother-in-law, Joseph Kibert, Jr. and his wife Orfelina of GlenDale; several nieces and nephews. Friends received 2-4 and 7-9 pm Sunday, November 2, 2003 at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, Lutes&Kirby-Vance Chapel, 118 Grant Ave., Moundsville. Friends then received from 12 pm noon until time of service at 1 pm, Monday, November 3 , 2003 at the Moundsville Baptist Church , Fourth Street and Annadale Ave., Moundsville, with Rev. J. Thomas Steele and Rev. Albert Driesch, T.O.R. officiating. Interment in Riverview Cemetery, Moundsville. Military graveside services by the Moundsville Honor Guard .
