Being with Flora and ESA meant that Bill had to be ever ready for a “picture” moment. And every time I took his picture, he posed for me. I realized later that he wasn’t posing for the picture, it was how he lived his life: With a smile, a real laugh and a zest for life. May we all remember how he lived his life and how he then taught us to live ours, to the fullest.

Bill was a great friend and fellow member of the FOGS. Every ride he took was the “best ride ever” and of course, never in the rain. Janice and I will miss him. Our thoughts are with Flora and the family.

Dear Flora and Family,

I was very saddened to hear of Bill’s passing. Although it has been quite a few years over a decade since I have seen Bill, I retain vivid memories of his antics and good humor, paddling on the rivers of Virginia. Confident, determined, and always ready to test the unknown. He is now scouting the rapids ahead for all of us that follow.

Best wishes for fond rememberances,

John

I remember Bill as a fun guy who always had a wonderful smile on his face. My impression was he loved ESA and what it stood for and supported Flora completely. I will miss seeing his smile and fun loving ways.

I was saddened to hear of Bill’s departure from this life. I will certainly miss him, he has been a good friend for many years, at work and play. He was an excellent mentor, teacher and advisor on many subjects, buisness and personal. I enjoyed his company, our converstaions about hunting and politics. Friends are forever, they never die.

Over the last few years I came to understand the admiration and respect that Kim had for Bill. She is deeply saddened in his passing. Kim introduced me to Bill as a “Good Guy” and a “Good Boss”. Over the years I learned what she meant. He always talked with me as if he had known me for a long time. Either it was a detailed story of a motorcycle trip or some of his whitewater kayaking, he shared them with me just the same. While observing him as Kim’s boss, he was a straight shooter. He passed along some of his business practices to her and entrusted her with many things. For this, she is greatful. He will be missed but not forgotten. He has touched our lives in different ways. Kim and I are very thankful for his friendship and his generosity to our daughter.

God Bless,

Jim & Kim Gower
