After spending summers with us, our granddaughters never left without a good-bye present from their friend Skip, an act of unexpected kindness. Not a man of many words you were, Skip, but what a heart !!! We will miss dropping in unexpectedly and finding you always happy to see us.

With gratitude and love,

I know it is very hard to loose someone you love and if there is anything I can do just let me know. You all have become my family over the years and I want you to know that I love you all. I am sorry for your loss.

I was saddened to hear of Mr. Fitchett’s passing. I had the pleasure of being his PT over the past few months and I believe I had learned more from our “therapy” sessions than he did. Thank you for your insight and colorful conversation which I will always remember. Sorry to see you go, fellow Gemini. Thinking of you and your loved ones,

Denise Morrison, PT

My heart felt sympathy to the Fitchett family on Skip’s passing. I worked with Skip at the Little Creek Amphibious Base Transportation Department for many years and always found him to be a man of honesty and integrity.

Sheryl and Billy,

I just watched the video and it was very moving and beautiful. I have enjoyed the time I have spent with you recently and wish I could do more and be there with ya’ll today. Your dad and the two of you and the boys have always been very special to me. I always felt like your Dad would have done anything for me if I needed it. Thats the kind of person he was. He would do anything for a friend. I’m glad I was his friend and I feel fortunate to have known him. He will be missed by many and I just wish life wasn’t so busy that I could have been there for him more. I guess I didn’t realize how sick he really was. If the two of you ever need anything, please call. Take care and god bless you.

Skip knew me as Paula Kinnard, daughter of Bill Kinnard and my fondest memory of Mr. Fitchett was when I was a little girl and we used to go to his cottage and he loved to fish with my brother and I. We would stand on the balcony with our fishing poles and cast them out onto the driveway and a miracle would happen when we would reel them up, we had a dollar attached to our line, he was so creative and fun! He was a very sweet man and I remember always laughing when we were around him. He will be truely missed! xoxox

Skip was a friend of my uncle Frank & cousin Sonny back in the 40’s & 50’s. As a youngster back in those days I also remember him well. I looked thru an old album while ago and found a photo of him and a friend of his by the name of Otis can’t remember his last name at my grandparents house on the corner of 25th & Newport in Park Place one Christmas eve in the 50’s after Skip got back from Korea. I remember him to be a very nice person.

Skip was a true friend and will be missed. Working with him at LCAB, wiring the cottage in Nags Head and enjoying a cold beer was always a pleasure.

Skip was our friend and neighbor for over 20 years. He was instrumental in developing the culture of Aeries on the Bay. The neighborhood will not be the same without him. He made a huge impact on our lives and will be sorely missed. Anna and I will miss our almost daily talks as well as the security of knowing that he was next door. Skip was one of a kind and I will miss him terribly.
