ROBBINS, William D. Bill, 72, of Wheeling, WV died Sunday, July 27, 2003 in Wheeling Hospital. He was born Dec. 22, 1930 in Martins Ferry, Ohio, a son of the late Harold D. and Hazel C. Bernett Robbins. He was a former detective with the Wheeling Police Department serving 37 years and retiring as a Lieutenant; a member of St. Joseph Cathedral Catholic Church, Wheeling and the Fraternal Order of Police Wheeling Lodge 38; an Army veteran of the Korean War; a member of the IOLA Club, Cave Club, PAP Club, Warwood Vets Club; and the annual Wheeling Italian Festival bocci champion. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Grover J. Robbins. Surviving are a daughter Christine Gary and her husband, Michael, of Gallipolis, Ohio; two sons, David R. Robbins and his wife, Brenda, of Wheeling and Michael Robbins and his wife, Cindi, of Triadelphia, WV.; a niece, Kathleen Robbins of Wheeling; a nephew, Grover James Robbins and his wife Donna, of Wheeling; and seven grandsons, Logan Gary, Brady, Brandon, Brooks, Braxton, Kyle and Sean Robbins. Friends received 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff Street, Wheeling. Funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at 12:05 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2003 at St. Joseph Cathedral Catholic Church, Wheeling with the Rev. Larry Dorsch as celebrant. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph Cathedral Catholic Church.
