William “Bill” Fox, 61, passed away January 16, 2008. A native New Yorker, he relocated to Virginia Beach with his wife, Rosann, son O’Brien “O’B” Fox of Norfolk and daughter Roxann Fox also of Norfolk in the early 1990’s.

He was a network engineer in the industry’s infancy and used his technical expertise to help bring Downtown New York online. He worked for companies such as: Chemical Bank, Continental Grain and Participants Trust. Upon moving to this area he became a communications technician and project manager for private industry as well as the military. He was last employed by Norfolk Wire. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.

Among his passions were antique cars, collecting baseball memorabilia, the New York Giants and New York Yankees and he was lucky enough to be in the stadium when A-Rod hit his 500th home run. He began his singing “career” at the Mount Carmel Feast in New York and also sang Doo-Wop. His voice reached deep down to your soul and he knew songs in languages we didn’t know that he could speak and from before his time. He loved being with his family and always had a joke, right down to the end.

He will live on for all those who loved him and for all the reasons we loved him, in our hearts forever. He leaves to cherish his memory two sisters, Patricia Reeps of Toms River, New Jersey and Frances DeBiase of Staten Island, New York along with countless family members and friends.

May God hold in his grace all those who prayed for our family, helped us through these difficult times and also to Comfort Care Hospice.

In honor, services will be held at St. Matthews Catholic Church, 3314 Sandra Lane, Va. Beach on Saturday, Jan 19, 2008 at 11:00 a.m, by Father Tham Thuy.
The family will receive friends at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Road Virginia Beach Friday Jan 18 from 2- 4 and 6-9 p.m.

In loving memory, and of course according to his wishes, a celebration of Bill’s life will be held Saturday after services at the family’s home. All are welcome.

He always had a kind word for all.

Condolences may be offered to the family at altmeyer.com.

Dear Roseann,

I am so sorry to hear of Bill’s passing and my deepest condolences go out to

you, OB, Roxy, and your family. Bill was a one of a kind personality and I have so many wonderful memories of him. Still to this day, after many years gone by, friends and co-workers will bring up something that came from Bill and it would bring a smile to our faces. It’s a true testament of the kind of man Bill was. Although I haven’t seen Bill in many years he still has left an impression on me that will remain forever, and I’m sure everyone I know who met him would say the same. I’m so glad I got to speak to him a couple of times this past month…and you know what, even going through what he was going through, he was still Bill. We spoke about the fun times we had, and of course sports. I know how passionate Bill was for his Yankees, and Giants football. I don’t really have the words. I’m sad, and sorry that Bill has left us way too early, but he also left an indelible mark in all our hearts. He will be missed.

Sincerely,

Kevin McKenna

Rosann & family,

My deepest sympathy. I have nothing but great memories of Bill whether it was the fun we had working together, listening to him sing Under the Boardwalk at the pier or having him tell the hillarious jokes and stories he belted out endlessly as if rehersed.

Even though those memories are 20 some odd years old I haven’t fogotten them just as I will never forget Bill. He was that kind of personality. I am so glad I had a chance to speak with him recently. It just reminded me of the tremendous man and friend Bill truly was. He will always be in our hearts and minds.

Regards,

Doug John

Rosann and Family,

My deepest sympathy to you and your family. We meet so many people during our lives, but we remember those that have had the greatest impact and meant the most. BillâÄôs humor and expressions will never be forgotten. No matter what the situation Bill could always bring a smile or laugh to someone that needed it.

I had the pleasure of speaking with Bill in mid December, we spoke for almost two hours about the past, our working at Continental Grain and all the stories, practical jokes and experiences we shared. I know from that conversation that he was proud of his wife, son and daughter. He boasted of their accomplishments and I could tell that he was smiling despite his condition. The fine memories of the past will always be with us to enjoy over and over. I am thankful for having worked with Bill, appreciating his humor, kindness and dedication. I will miss Bill, but I will never forget him.

The lives of so many people are so much better for Bill having been part of those lives. Whether he made you laugh, taught you something, or just reminded you of “the big picture” and what’s really important in life, he gave much to many. I feel blessed to have had Bill as a mentor in so many ways. He and all those “Foxisms” will remain alive in our hearts for the rest of our days. My deepest sympathies to Ro, Roxie, and Obie. Bill was so very proud of each of you.

To Ro and the Foxes–

Our deepest sympathies on the passing of my buddy, The Fox. Bill was the first Staten Islander I met when I came to SI to attend college on the GI Bill. He was an unemployed brick-layer, and I convinced him to join me at SI Community College. Bill could light up the room with his jokes and infectous laugh. I know he’s up there yelling WHO!!! WHAT!!! and I know Heaven will be a different place now. Cathy, Mariel and I will always carry Bill in our hearts and prayers.
