William “Bill” F. Campbell Jr., 87, of Wheeling, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2015 in Good Shepherd Nursing Home.
He was born June 8, 1927, a son of the late William F. and Helen Gordon-Forrester Campbell Sr. Bill was a U.S. Army and Navy Veteran, serving in both WWII and the Korean War. He was retired from Blaw Knox as a tool grinder and later became a security guard at Wheeling Downs. Bill was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Carroll Council No. 504, Wheeling, VFW Post 15050, American Legion Post 1, and the Bridgeport Eagles. He was an avid golfer, a master of gadgets and loved spending time and fishing with his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by one son, William “Bill” F. Campbell III; one granddaughter, Jennifer Bennett; one grandson, Bryan Hindman; and one son-in-law, Frankie Hager.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, of 39 years, Jane Wojtaszek Bowman Campbell; children, John Dorothy, Michael Rena, and Steve Bowman; daughter-in-law, Shirley Bowman; grandchildren, Gail Dean Rice, Dustin Gina, David Amanda and Christine Bowman; and great grandchildren, Cody and Jaiden Rice
Also surviving are children, Sharon Glen Johnson, Helen Hager, Harry Campbell and Margaret Jerry Hindman; daughter-in-law, Mary Campbell; grandchildren, Larissa and Damante Johnson, Autumn and Aubria Hager, Shey Kesterson, Jeremy Bennett, Amy and Eric Wayt, Cassie Campbell, Nicholes McCracken, Ryan, Jessica and Alicia Hindman; and great grandchildren, Lorenzo Clark, Jimear Harris, Tyra Hager-Smith, Jazmyne and Jayden Kesterson, Kayla, Jude, Blake, and Ansyl Bennett, and Evan Zane.
Friends and family will be received Monday, May 25, 2015 from 12-7 pm, at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Elm Grove Chapel, 154 Kruger Street. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at 10:30 am, at St. Joseph Cathedral, with Monsignor Kevin M. Quirk as celebrant. Interment to take place at National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Pennsylvania.
