WILLIAM A. SHUBAT, 81 OF BELLAIRE, OHIO DIED TUESDAY EVENING AT HIS HOME. HE WAS BORN NOVEMBER 14, 1922 IN BELLAIRE, OHIO, A SON OF THE LATE FRANK AND MARY PEROVIC SHUBAT.

HE WAS A RETIRED POSTMASTER FOR THE UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE, FORMER DEPUTY REGISTRAR OF MOTOR VEHICLES FOR THE STATE OF OHIO, A DECORATED MARINE VETERAN OF WORLD WAR II RECEIVING THE PURPLE HEART FOR WOUNDS RECEIVED IN THE BATTLE OF IWO JIMA. A 1940 GRADUATE OF BELLAIRE HIGH SCHOOL, HE BECAME A PRESIDENTIAL GUARD FOR PRESIDENT FRANKLIN ROOSEVELT WHILE STATIONED IN WASHINGTON, DC, FROM 1940-1945, PRIOR TO GOING TO IWO JIMA.

HE WAS A MEMBER OF THE SOUTH BELLAIRE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, A MEMBER OF IONIC LODGE #438 F & AM OF BELLAIRE AND A MEMBER OF THE DAV POST #117 OF BELLAIRE.

SURVIVING ARE HIS WIFE, DONNA J. HICKS SHUBAT; TWO DAUGHTERS, SHERRY ALLEN ARTMAN OF FAIRMONT, WEST VIRGINIA; BARBARA JOSEPH KINDT OF BELLVILLE, OHIO AND ONE SON, WILLIAM F. SHUBAT OF BELLAIRE, OHIO. GRANDCHILDREN, SHANE ARTMAN WENDY OF ATLANTA, CHANTELE ARTMAN OF WASHINGTON, DC, JACOB AND CALEB KINDT OF BELLVILLE, OHIO AND ONE GREAT GRANDDAUGHTER KAYDEE ROSE ARTMAN OF ATLANTA.

FAMILY AND FRIENDS WILL BE RECEIVED THURSDAY FROM 2 TO 8 PM AT THE BAUKNECHT-ALTMEYER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 441-37TH STREET, BELLAIRE, OHIO, WHERE SERVICES WILL BE HELD ON FRIDAY AT 11 AM WITH REVEREND JAMES HOFF OFFICIATING.

INTERMENT AT BELMONT COUNTY MEMORIAL PARK CEMETERY, ST. CLAIRSVILLE, OHIO.

MILITARY HONORS WILL BE CONDUCTED BY THE BELMONT COUNTY COUNCIL OF AMERICAN LEGION.

MASONIC SERVICES, IONIC LODGE #438 F & AM, THURSDAY 7:30 PM AT THE FUNERAL HOME.

MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS MAY BE MADE TO THE BELMONT COUNTY CRIPPLED CHILDREN AND ADULTS OR SOUTH BELLAIRE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH.

Bill and Donna and Family,

I’m so sorry I couldn’t make it to the funeral home. I know you’ve been expecting Bill’s passing but you’re never ready, but he’s with Jesus now and his suffering is over. I know God will keep you in His arms of Love and give you the strength to get though this. You have a great family!
