Wilbur Edward "Ed" Cartier, 74, went to be with the Lord on Nov. 8, 2003. Ed was born in Flint, Mich., to the late Joseph and Eula-Bell Cartier and served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a sergeant during the Korean War. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Chesapeake and devoted many years in doing God’s work. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ruth A. Cartier; four children, Edward Joseph Cartier and his wife, Rachel, of Foxworth, Miss., Wilhelmina Johnson, Allan Cartier and his wife, Tammy, and Betty Best, all of Chesapeake; 22 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, John Cartier. Visitation will be held today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Altmeyer Funeral Home 5792 Greenwich Road, Virginia Beach. The funeral will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Temple Baptist Church 1322 N. George Washington Highway in Chesapeake, VA 23323 with Pastor Allen Dooley officiating. Burial to follow with Marine Corps honors in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Temple Baptist Church Mission Fund. All of us here at the Endependence Center are very sorry to hear of Mr. Cartier’s passing. He was a good man who was always there for his son Johnny. We wish the best for his family in their time of grief. Sincerely, Steve Johnson

Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. I have fond memories of Ed and the entire family. I am so glad that Joe and I were able to visit with Ed and Tiny this last year. I had forgotten how much he made me laugh.

Paw-Paw we love and miss you we will always remeber you and everything you mean to us we maybe scared of the thougth we died but we know you are in a better place just knowe we know we love you always your family!
