Wilbur Calvin Turner, 81, of Mills Road, St. Clairsville, Ohio, died suddenly Wednesday, June 4, 1008, after a recent illness.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Edith Evelyn Turner, his parents, Wilbur K. and Anna Turner, his older brother, Robert Turner killed as a WWII pilot , a sister, Virginia Sickles and a great-grandson, Thomas Robert Turner.
Surviving are his children; BobMary Turner, Tricia Mike Gibas, Jeb Turner, Gretchen Humiston, Jennifer Al Turand, David Kristin Turner, his grandchildren; Kevin and Sean Turner, J.P. Gibas, Madison and Morgan Turner, Karsen, Jamie and Logan Humiston, Dominic Turand, and Meghan and Kaitlyn Turner, great-grandchildren; Joey and Luke Turner, his sisters; Betty West, Barbara Broadhead and Shirley Ambrose.
Calvin graduated from St. Clairsville High School where he was a member of the 1943 undefeated football season, attended Muskingum College, playing varsity football, and served his country as a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne in the Pacific Theater. After WWII, Wilbur returned to college, earning his Bachelor and Masters degree in education from Kent State University.
He then began his career in St. Clairsville, as a teacher, guidance counselor, coach and referee, that spanned over 30 years.
He touched many lives and was well respected by all.
Calvin enjoyed fishing, boating, attending his lawn, sporting events, and his children and grand-children. Senecaville Lake and Sunfish Creek have lost a friend. He will be sadly missed by all.
Friends will received from 2-4 and 6-8 PM, Saturday, June 7, 2008 at the Beck-Altmeyer Funeral Home & Crematory, 204 West Main Street, St. Clairsville, Ohio 43950, where funeral services will be held Sunday at 3 PM, with Dr. Bradley Call officiating.
Interment will be in Union Cemetery, St. Clairsville, Ohio.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Saints Club.

Trisha and Family,

Please accept my deepest sympothy for your loss. My prayes and thoughts are with you. When I attended school in St. Clairsville your father went out of his way to make me feel comfortable and accepted and I will always remember him for that. He seemed to always have a smile ready to make you feel at ease.
