Curitti, Wido R., 78, of McMechen, WV, died Wednesday, April 6, 2005 in Ohio Valley Medical Center, Wheeling, WV. He was born June 5, 1926 in Bellaire, Ohio, a son of the late Guy and Anna Tedeschi Curitti. Mr. Curitti was a retired employee of the former Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Plant, Benwood, WV; a member of St. James Catholic Church, McMechen, where he was a member of the Holy Name Society, and a WW II veteran of the US Navy.
Wido was a very active volunteer in community affairs where he was a member of the McMechen Volunteer Fire Department for more than 50 years, a member of the Moose; a lifetime member of the Garibaldi Club, Benwood and the American Legion, Post 5, McMechen.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers, Mario, Lennie, John, and Hugo Curitti; a sister, Teresa Wieteha. Surviving are his wife, Mary Elizabeth Butler Curitti; several nieces and nephews including Mary Ann Bailey of New Philadelphia, Ohio.
Friends will be received from noon to 3 and 7-9 pm Sunday at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 214 Marshall St., McMechen. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at 10 am Monday, April 11, 2005 at the St. James Catholic Church, McMechen with the Rev. Joseph J. Hayden S.J. as celebrant. Vigil service will be held at 2:30 pm Sunday at the funeral home. The McMechen Volunteer Fire Department will have services at 7 pm and American Legion service will be held at 7:15 pm Sunday. Interment in Halcyon Hills Memorial Park, Sherrard, WV. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. James Catholic Church, 324 Logan St., McMechen, WV 26040.

I am very sorry to have heard of Wido’s death. The main thing that I remember about him was at the church picnics him having to call the bingo numbers and him joking and saying that that was the Catholic in him. He was a great man and will be sadly missed.
