Kowalesky, Walter J., 80, of McMechen, WV, died Sunday, January 27, 2008 in Reynolds Memorial Hospital, Glen Dale, WV.
He was born May 23, 1927 in McMechen, a son of the late Vincent and Bernice Smurak Kowalesky. He was a retired employee of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, Benwood Plant and a member of St. James Catholic Church, McMechen. Mr. Kowalesky was a member of the American Legion Post 5, McMechen, the McMechen Volunteer Fire Department, and was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Vincent Kowalesky, and a sister, Dolores Kowalesky.
Surviving are his wife, Suzette M. Furbee Kowalesky, and a sister, Amelia Kowakesky, both of McMechen.
Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 pm Tuesday at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 114 Marshall St., McMechen. Vigil services will be held at 2:00 pm at the funeral home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am Wednesday, January 30, 2008 St. James Catholic Church, McMechen, with Rev. Joseph J. Hayden, S.J. as celebrant.
Interment at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling, WV.

“Mumbles” will be missed by many. He was a fixture on the streets of McMechen! Sorry for your loss.

Dear Mrs Kowalesky:

We wish to express our deepest sympathy. Mumbles was a kind and generous man. I’v know him since my dad started taking me to the fire department when I was a small child. Mrs. Kowalesky our thoughts and prayers are with you.
