Walter E. Rejonis, 91, of Smithsburg, Maryland, formerly of Bellaire, Ohio, died Thursday, February 7, 2008 in Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown, Maryland.

Walter was born April 11, 1916 in Bellaire, Ohio, a son of the late Walter and Thelma Stankus Rejonis.

He was a coal miner at the former Powhatan #2 Mine, a former local union president and was a retired Inspector with the United Mine Workers Health and Retirement Fund in Washington DC. He was a member of Ionic Lodge #438 F & AM Bellaire, Ohio, a member of UMWA District #6 and a Methodist by faith.

Preceding him in death were a son Robert Rejonis in 1986, three brothers, Alphonse Strudis in 1980, Joseph Rejonis in 1983, Frank Rejonis in 1983 and a sister Thelma Wright in 1950.

Surviving is his wife of 71 years, Ethel M. Parker Rejonis, three sons, Walter Glen Lois Rejonis of Oakton, VA. Donald Lee Sharon Rejonis of Middletown, MD, and Gary Gene Nina Rejonis of Smithsburg, MD. Nine grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Also surviving are two sister-in-laws, Helen Gibson and Jean Parker both of Shadyside, Ohio

Friends will be received at the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Homes and Crematory 441 37th Bellaire, Ohio, Monday 10a.m. until time of funeral service at 1p.m. with Rev. Donald Perks officiating.

Interment in Powhatan Cemetery Powhatan Point, Ohio.

Masonic services Monday 12:30p.m. in the funeral home.

To Don and the Rejonis family –

My heart goes out to you all as you mourn the loss of your beloved father, husband, and grandfather. May you always remember the wonderful times you had together and cherish those memories during these difficult times.
