Virginia Irene Reukauf O’Connell, 88, of Wheeling, died Friday Oct. 11, 2002 in the Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Wheeling.
Virginia was born May 20, 1914 at Bellaire, Ohio the daughter of the late George and Margaret Rose Digity Reukauf.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Edward J. O’Connell, a son: John O’Connell, two sisters: Magaruite Brown and Agnes Cottello, and two granddaughters: Francis Kerry and Ellen Kay Church.
Surviving are four sons; Coach Thomas O’Connell and his wife Patty of Wheeling. Coach O’Connell is an assistant football coach of Wheeling Central and a former teacher and coach at Bishop Donahue and Buckeye Local school districts, Kenny O’Connell and his wife Sandy of Wheeling, Michael O’Connell and his wife Loyola of Wheeling, George O’Connell and his wife Rose of Martins Ferry, two daughters: Ellen Heller of Wheeling and Ginger Richardson and her husband Don also of Wheeling. A brother: Warren Reukauf and his wife JoAnn of Bellaire, three sisters: Mae Scales, Francis Johnson and Betty Clark all of Bellaire; Daughter-in-law Judy O’Connell of Martinsburg; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
Virginia was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church and a member of the Christian Mothers of St. Alphonsus.
Friends will be received 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday Oct. 14, 2002 at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff Street, Wheeling, Funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Wheeling, with Rev. Patrick Condron celebrant. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling.
Memorial contributions may be made to Central Catholic High School, Financial Aid Fund, Wheeling, WV 26003. Vigil services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
