Virgil L. Thompson, 79, of Wheeling, WV, died Tuesday Oct. 15, 2002 at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA.
He was born July 17, 1923 in Short Creek, WV, son of the late Leroy F. and Ina Doman Thompson.
He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service, Wheeling; World War II Marine Veteran and a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years. Dorothy C. Neidert Thompson; and one brother, Russell R. Thompson.
Surviving are six sons, David Thompson, and his wife, Lorraine, of Fredericksburg, VA, Roy Thompson and his wife Sharon of North Wales, PA, Rick Thompson of Wheeling, Pete Thompson and his wife Rose of North Canton, Ohio, Donald Thompson and his wife Missie of Wheeling, Kevin Thompson and his wife, Shannan of Columbus, Ohio; four daughters, Judy Christensen of Wheeling, Susie Morgan and her husband Dan, of Wheeling, Cindi Livingston and her husband Jeff of Wheeling, Mary Jane Allen, and her husband Tom of Toronto, Canada; 21 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Friends will received 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 154 Kruger St., Elm Grove, Wheeling, where a vigil service will be held Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. James LaCrosse, S.M. as celebrant. Interment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery Cemetery, Wheeling.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Capital Campaign, 2244 Marshall Ave., Wheeling.
