Violet E. Whittaker
Violet E. Whittaker, 97, of Tenth Street, Wellsville, Ohio passed away Thursday, April 22, 2004 at Essex Nursing Home in Salem, Ohio following a brief illness.
She was born in Good Intent, Pennsylvania on October 21, 1906, a daughter of the late William and Minnie Grey Murray. Living most of her married life in the area, Mrs. Whittaker was a wife, mother and grandmother. She was an avid reader and active with Daughters of the American Revolution, Council #4, Noble Grand of the Rebecca Lodge #782, serving in all chairs and received the The District Deputy Order of Chivalry. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Wellsville, Ohio.
Her husband, George W. Whittaker, Sr., whom she married December of 1925, passed away September 11, 1981.
She is survived by a son, George W. Whittaker, Jr. and his wife Doris of Wellsville, Ohio; three daughters, Marian Walker and her husband, Maurice of Salem, Ohio, Violet Tolj and her husband, Donald of Naples, Florida and Juanita Wabnitz and her husband, Edwin of Sheperdstown, West Virginia; Sixteen grandchildren and thirty-six great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Ann Long in October of 1974, nine brothers and four sisters.
Services will be held at the Wellsville Chapel of the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Homes on Monday, April 26, 2004 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Bob Phillips of the church, officiating.
Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery.
The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home in Wellsville on Sunday, April 25, 2004 from 12:00 Noon to 4:00 PM. and up until the service on Monday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Central United Methodist Church of Wellsville.
