Newport News- Violet B. Parker, 80, died April 6, 2002 in Riverside Regional convalescent Center. She lived in Massachusetts relocating to Newport News in 1997.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, E. Russell Parker. She is survived by two daughters, Beverly J. Parker of Newport News and Elizabeth James Murray of Holland, MA.
She received an AA degree in Psychology as an adult. She owned a book stores business for a few years and retired from the state of Massachusetts as Volunteer Coordinator and Occupational Therapy Assistant at Worcester State Hospital.
She was a faithful and active member of Sturbridge Federated Church in Sturbridge, MA Serving as Sunday School Superintendent and President of Women’s Fellowship. When visiting Newport News she participated in choir and women’s circle activities at Warwick United Church of Christ.
She enjoyed bicycling in wildlife settings, gardening, reading, oil painting and crafts. She was loved and will be sadly missed by family and friends. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the administration and staff of in Riverside Regional Convalescent Center, especially the Monticello staff.
A memorial service will be held at Warwick United Church of Christ corner of J. Clyde Morris BLVD & Jefferson AVE April 14, 2002 at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Michael Christensen and Dr. F. Lanier Fly officiating. Her cremated remains will be buried with her husband in Sturbridge, MA at a later date.
