HANCHER, Vernon L. “Sonny”, 62, died Thursday January 8, 2009 at OVMC.
He was born in Washington PA on January 23, 1946 a son of the late Cecil and Ruth Myers Hancher. He was a Christian by faith, a former employee of Donaldson Mine, Valley Camp Coal, a member of the Cave Club and a member of the UMWA.
Surviving is his wife, Regina R. Fadul Hancher, a son, Scott Hancher and his wife Jennifer of West Lafayette, IN, two daughters Sondra Wojchowski and her husband John and Shelly Hancher all of Wheeling, a brother, Daniel “Jerry” Hancher and his wife Nancy of Florida, three sisters, Ima Jean Sim and her husband Bill of Pomeroy, OH, Vicki Sessa of Claysville, PA and Sue King of Ohio, five grandchildren, Megan, Amanda, Samantha, Shaun and Gavin.
Friends will be received on Monday from 3-8pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff Street, Wheeling, where a vigil service will be held at 7pm.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00am at Our Lady of Lebanon Maronite Catholic Church with the Rev. Bakhos Chidiac as celebrant. Interment will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Sonny Hancher Memorial Fund, 24 Breezy Acres, Wheeling, WV 26003 of Our Lady of Lebanon Catholic Church, 2216 Eoff Street, Wheeling.

You don’t know me ,but I am one of Sonny cousins. His Dad & My Mother were brother& sister. I saw Sonny at the Hancher rieunion in 2007,at Claysville Park.
