Vera Mae Ashworth
Age 91

Vera Mae Ashworth, age 91, of Alliance, Ohio died on Tuesday, December 30, 2008, at the Alliance Community Hospital after a brief illness.

The daughter of the late Thurman and Ethel Cunningham Cornell, she was born in Salem, WV on February 8, 1917. Living the early part of her life here in East Liverpool, Mrs. Ashworth lived most of her life in the Kent-Alliance area. She had worked at Hall China and as a Beautician with her sister at the former Vel-Vera Salon in East Liverpool and was a member of the First Baptist Church.

She was married on March 14, 1944 to her husband, John M. Ashworth Sr., who died in 1991.

Survivors include two sons: John M. Ashworth Jr. of Akron, OH, and David Taylor of MI; a daughter: Jane Lee Ashworth of Williamsburg, VA; a sister; Velma Cornell of Alliance, OH; 10 Grandchildren: Laurie Jerry Simms of Akron, OH, Lisa Mark Kovac of Canton, OH, Gary Stacie Ashworth of Akron, OH, Sondra Rob Buchner of Akron, OH, David Ashworth and Robert Ashworth both of Akron, OH, John Echols of CA, Bill Echols and Carol Echols both of VA and Sarah Echols of CA; several Great Grandchildren, one Great Great Grandchild and several cousins.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Ashworth was preceded in death by a son Gareth A. Ashworth and a sister Violet Cornell.

Services will be held at the Calcutta Chapel of the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Homes at 15872 St. Clair Ave. in Calcutta, Ohio on Friday, January 2, 2009, at 1:00 PM with Rev. James Beach of the First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Columbiana Co. Memorial Park.

Family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home in Calcutta from 11:00 AM. until the time of services on Friday
