SIMON, Valerie J., 92, of Wheeling WV, died Thursday, October 6, 2011 at Wheeling Hospital. She was born in London, England on March 4, 1919. Valerie was a retired employee of the former Leeds Furniture Company and WCPI Radio in Wheeling. She was a very active member of St Matthews Episcopal Church where she was a member of the Altar Guild and worked with the Food Pantry for more than 25 years. Valerie was a Flight Officer for the Women’s Royal Air Force of England during WWII, a member of the Royal Air Force Association and worked for many years with the American Red Cross on blood drives. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Simon A. Simon in 1977; two sisters, Jean Rankin and Jennifer Lovell. Surviving are two daughters, Christine Goodwin and her husband David of Wheeling, and Gillian Baxter and her husband Zane of Nashville TN; two sons, Douglas Simon of Pawley’s Island, SC and Mark Simon and his wife Lori of Sherrard WV; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff Street, Wheeling WV on Sunday, October 9, 2011 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm and on Monday from 10:30 am until the time of the service at 11 am at St Matthews Episcopal Church in Wheeling with Fr. Mark E. Seitz as celebrant. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family at Park View Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the St Matthews Food Pantry, 1410 Chapline Street, Wheeling WV 26003. Chris and Dave – Please accept my condolences and prayers in this sad time. I always enjoyed talking to your mom when she attended church with you at Glen Dale. Another star has been added to the heavens. Tonya
