FREELAND, Thelma Pastorius, 92, formerly of McMechen, died Thursday, February 14, 2008 in Valley Haven Geriatric Center, Wellsburg.

Thelma was born February 1, 1916 in Marshall County, a daughter of the late Blaine and Elva Morgan Pastorius. She was a continuous member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 57 years, and was a member of the Dames of Malta and the Pithian Sisters.

In addition to her parents, Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, Cornelius E. Freeland; three brothers, James, Robert and Morgan Pastorius; a grandson, Michael Smith; and a great-granddaughter, Ann Marie Penvose.

Surviving are her four daughters, Joyce Chalk and her husband, Charles of Boynton Beach, Fla., Judy Thurman of Rising Sun, Ind., Karen King of Youngstown, Ohio and Franny Smith and her husband, Michael of McMechen; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Friends will be received from 11 am until time of funeral services at 1 pm, Saturday, February 16, 2008 at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Benwood-McMechen Chapel, 214 Marshall Street, McMechen, with the Rev. April Forkey. Interment will be in Allen Grove Cemetery, Sherrard.
