Susan Snyder Garthright

October 11, 1937 - May 16, 2015

10/11/1937 - 05/16/2015

Susan passed peacefully on Saturday, May 16, 2015, after a valiant struggle with a chronic illness. Her husbands, Larry E. Twiford and William E. Garthright preceded her in death. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Nancy Snyder of Waynesboro, three nephews, Jeff Snyder and Chris Snyder of Glen Allen, John Snyder of Haymarket, one niece, Annette Snyder Peterson of Great Falls, Montana, and 10 great nieces and nephews.

Susan was born in Richmond, Virginia on October 11, 1937 to Frederick and Margaret Chamberlain Snyder. She had some wonderful years in New York until she was called home to care for her ailing parents, first her mother and later, her father. After that she made her home in Virginia Beach. She was as active in her church as her health permitted, and loved participating in the Potter’s House, Congregational Care, counting money, Seasoned Energetic Adults, and the Sallie Brown Circle. She wrote notes of encouragement to many who will remember her beautiful penmanship and caring words.

Susan asked to be remembered as generous, kind, and forthright; with a smile and sense of humor. Her faith uplifted her and became her source of strength and hope.

A memorial service will be 11am, Thursday, June 4, 2015 at Virginia Beach United Methodist Church, 212 19th St, Va. Beach, 23451. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church in her name.

Sorry to hear about Susan. My husband and I lived near her in Lynnhaven Colony and knew both of her husbands. My thoughts and prayers are with the family at their time of loss.

Susan and I met in 8th grade and from there continued all these years of keeping in touch…through thick and thin. She was a true and very fun friend. I am so glad I spoke to her very recently. Hearing then that the end was near after all her struggles, I am still saddened by her death and yet I rejoice for the suffering to be over. Rest in peace, old friend. See you anon!

Susan was a wonderful member of the Goodman Segar Hogan property management team in much of the 1980’s, working as the executive secretary for the Senior Vice president. I was always inspired by her professionalism, dedication for work, personal approachability, and her ability to inspire with a kind word. I have missed her much over the years and am sad to her of her passing, but she does live on in our good memories of her and her contributions. Larry Fields, former Vice President, Goodman Segar Hogan
