Steve V. Sofka, 80, of Wheeling, died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, in East Ohio Regional Hospital, Martins Ferry.
He was a retired Metallurgic Laboratory Technician for the Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp., Yorkville plant. He was a memebr of the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church; a member of the Iola Club and the Cave Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Mary Tempka Sofka.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa Burns Sofka; a son, Michael S. Sofka and his wife, Judith of Wheeling; two daughters, Sandra Kay Sayre and her husband, John of Wheeling and Mary Jean Stanton and her husband, Tim of Bridgeport, Ohio; two sisters, Mildred Wardle of Wheeling and Josephine Bruno of Wheeling; a brother, Michael Sofka of Wheeling; five grandchildren, John ”Jay” Sayre and his wife, Michelle of Wheeling, Tim Stanton of Bridgeport, Ohio, Kevin Sofka of Wheeling and Sarah and Kelly Sofka of Wheeling; two great-grandchildren, Jonathon and Breanna Sayre; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received on Friday, March 30, 2001, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff St., Wheeling, where Vigil services will be held at 8 p.m. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 31, 2001, at 10 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, with the Rev. Patrick Condron as celebrant. Entombment in Mount Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, Wheeling.
