Stella H. Powalka Sine, 82, of Wheeling, W.Va., passed away Monday, April 20, 2015, in Peterson Rehabilitation Hospital, Wheeling.
Stella was born June 4, 1932 in Wheeling, a daughter of the late Adam and Anna Bruderk Powalka. She was a retired clerk for the former Shulick-Taylor Co.; and a member of St. Joseph Cathedral, Wheeling, where she was active in the Christian Mothers.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. James H. Sine; a brother, Zygmunt Powalka; and a sister, Blanche “Bernie” Slokan.
Stella is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Pompeo and her husband, Gary, and Debra Sine and her fiance’, Kelly Ernest, all of Wheeling; two nephews, Albert Slokan and his wife Sharon of Glen Dale, W.Va and Thomas Slokan and his wife, Maxine of Moundsville, W.Va.; and Stella’s grandpuppy, Nikolas.
Friends will be received from 1-3 & 6-8 pm, Thursday, at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, Elm Grove Chapel, 154 Kruger Street, Wheeling.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am, Friday, April 24, 2015, at St. Joseph Cathedral, Wheeling, with Rev. Douglas Ondeck as celebrant. Interment will be in Halcyon Hills Memorial Park, Sherrard, W.Va.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Belmont County Animal Rescue League, 45244 National Road W., St. Clairsville, OH 43950.
Cheryl and Debbie –Stella was a dear lady. So many memories of this wonderful woman who never complained despite obstacles thrown her way. Our deepest sympathy on your loss.

Stella was a wonderful lady and will be greatly missed by so many people. Her kind thoughts will live on in my heart and through the legacy of her family.
