Sister Cecilia Ann Biesczad, a Sister of Saint Joseph, died Thursday, March 11, 2004, at Mount Saint Joseph, She was 68 years old.

Sister Cecilia Ann was born on September 11, 1935, in Clarksburg, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Michael Biesczad and Virginia Serwalka Biesczad. She attended Holy Rosary School and St. Mary’s High School in Clarksburg.

She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Saint Joseph on August 22, 1953 and became known as Sister Frances Miriam. Later she chose to be known by her baptismal name, Sister Cecilia Ann. Her BS dereee in Education is from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh.

Sister Cecilia Ann’s ministry in education was in schools throughtout the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston including St. Francis Xavier in Moundsville, St. Thomas in Thomas, Corpus Christi in Warwood. Blessed Sacrament in South Charleston, St. Vincent de Paul in Wheeling, St. Mary’s School in Clarksburg, SS. James & John in Benwood, and All Saints in Bridgeport, West Virginia. She later ministered at Catholic Charities Neighborhood Center on 18th Street, Wheeling.

Sister Cecilia Ann was preceded in death by her parents and her nephews Christopher Quickle and Thomas Douglas. She is survived by her sister, Helen Quickle and her husband Burell, her brother Jerome Biesczad and his wife Helen, her nephew Kevin Quickle and her husband Burell, her brother Jerome Biesczad and his wife Helen, her nephew Kevin Quickle and his wife Kimberly, and her niece Michele Laurie and her husband John. She is remembered by former students, families and friends she served in volunteer ministry.

Family and friends will be received from 1:30 pm to 9:00 pm on Sunday, March 14, 2004, at Mount Saint Joseph, 137 Mount St. Joseph Road, Wheeling, where Vigil Services will be held at 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Monday, March 15, 2004 in the Mount Saint Joseph Chapel, with the Rev. Walter Buckius, SJ, as celebrant. Interment in Mount Calvary Cemetery in the Sisters of St. Joseph section.
