Sophia J. Komorowski Metz, 78, of Moundsville, W.Va., passed away Thursday, January 23, 2014, in Reynolds Memorial Hospital, Glen Dale, W.Va.
Sophia was born September 8, 1935 in Moundsville, a daughter of the late Roman and Veronica Komorowski. She was a retired sales clerk for Giant Eagle, a Catholic by faith, and was a Relay for Life participant.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Stella Kowal; and five brothers, Joseph, Mitchell, Frederick, Stanley and John Komorowski.
Sophia is survived by her two children, Monica M. Masters and her husband, Steve, and Edward M. Metz, all of Moundsville; a sister, Geneva Cicholski of Shadyside, Ohio; two grandchildren, Mariah and Mitchell Wilson; two step-grandchildren, Steven and Michele Masters; two great-granddaughters, Kaylee Wilson and Stephanie Berardi; a special niece, Gina Hoops and her husband Dean, and their sons, Michael and Scott Hoops, all of Moundsville; a special nephew, Francis Stanley Cicholski, Jr. and his wife Nanette of Pennsylvania; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
At Sophia’s request, there will be no visitation. Services and interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Marshall County Animal Shelter or the American Cancer Society.
Arrangements are by Altmeyer Funeral Home, Lutes & Kirby-Vance Chapel, 118 Grant Avenue, Moundsville.

I was so sorry to hear of Sophia’s passing. I used to work with her at Giant Eagle and she was a wonderful lady. Prayers to the family on their loss.

Sincere sympathies to everyone. Your mom/aunt was a wonderful lady – always spoke exactly what she thought. I can hear her now “discussing” everything w/Fred. Memories are such a big help in times as this.

Sophia was a teenager when I first came to Moundsville at the age of nine, She was as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside, She will be missed by allwho knew her, but there is now a new beautiful angel named SOPHIA in heaven, my condolences to the family
