Sister Mary Catherine Wiles, VHM, a member of Mount de Chantal community of Sisters of the Visitation, died Tuesday, April 30, 2002, in Wheeling Hospital. She was 85. Sister Mary Catherine was born in Washington, PA, Aug. 17, 1916, the daughter of the late Raymond F. and Mary Agnes Dolan Wiles. A graduate of Immaculate Conception High School, Washington, PA, and Mount Mercy now Carlow College, Pittsburgh, PA, she also attended the Duquesne University School of Business Administration. After working for a number of years in the business community, she entered the Mount de Chantal Visitation community in 1974, making her first profession of vows in 1977. Sister Mary Catherine’s responsibilities at Mount de Chantal include working in the development and alumnae offices and the sisters’ and academy libraries and as receptionist and community drive. In addition to her parents, Sister Mary Catherine was preceded in death by a sister, Grace O’Brien. She is survived by a brother, Harold B. Wiles and his wife, Ruby, of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two nephews, James Wiles of Washington, D.C. and William O’Brien and his wife, Sharon, of Cincinnati, Ohio, and their two children; and a niece, Patricia Ehrentraut of Washington, PA, and her seven children. Friends received from 3:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Mount de Chantal, 410 Washington Ave., Wheeling. A prayer service will be held at 6:30 p.m Thursday. Funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Friday, May 3, 2002, in the Mount Chapel with Father George Hohman, SJ, as celebrant. Interment in the Mount de Chantal Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of the Visitation Retirement Fund, 410 Washington Avenue, Wheeling, WV 26003
