Sean Hatfield, 43, passed away in Virginia Beach, VA. Left to cherish his memory are his wife; Nikki Hatfied of Virginia Beach, his mother; Ann Graeve, father Berton Hatfield and his brother; Ray Hatfield, as well as five nieces, and a very large extended family. Sean was loved by everyone that knew him, he had so many friends he had a hard time keeping up with with everyone. He was known as the “Mad Hatter” amongst his friends, and was invited to everyone’s parties where he was the life of the party!!! He could have a conversation with anyone.
If there is one thing to know about Sean, it’s that he loved, and lived Rock and Roll! He was hooked when he heard his first KISS song “Love Gun” with his brother Ray, it started his lifelong love the band. Sean was all but too proud to have introduced his wife Nikki to his favorite band, and she was “hooked” immediately as well. They loved spending every summer touring around going to as many 80’s concerts as they could find. They also loved spending as many nights as possible on their patio drinking and playing iPod trivia. They would set the iPod on shuffle and whoever could guess the band first got a point Sean ALWAYS won. Nikki could only get ahead if she put on her broadway playlist, he didn’t stand a chance. They enjoyed bowling and watching sports together, especially his favorite Pittsburgh teams, the Steelers and the Penguins! Sean loved fast cars, he drove a Subaru STI, and slow dogs, his first bassett hound, Daisy and they recently got a new puppy, Shandi appropriately named after a KISS song.
Sean proudly served in the U.S. Navy for almost 10 years and was an Aviation Electrician. He spent his time in working on f-14’s and f-18 jets. He preferred the tomcats, but he just loved fixing jets.
Memorial contributions have been asked to be sent to the Navy and Marine Corps Relief Society, 875 North Randolph Street, Suite 225, Arlington VA 22203 in Sean’s name.
A funeral service will be held in the Albert G. Horton Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk on Tuesday January 24, 2012 at 2:00 pm. A Celebration of Life/ reception will be held at the Portsmouth Fire Department Union Hall 3704 Winchester Drive Portsmouth, VA 23707. Altmeyer Funeral Home – Southside Chapel is assisting the family.

I just can’t think of the right words to say….. if there are any.

I am so sorry for your loss. Sean was a great guy. Always had a smile and a hug for you… along with a crazy story or two. Nikki, Ann and Ray I pray for God to give you peace. Because we may never understand or have the answers to the many questions I’m sure you all have. I pray for God to wrap His loving arms around you and to comfort you until you can go on.{{{{{{big hugs to you all}}}}}}

A “Celebration of Sean’s Life”, thats perfect, says it all. He was truly a man to celebrate and worth celebrating. I can not be there to celebrate Sean’s life with you, know I am with you in spirit and those of us who can’t be there next Tuesday, will celebrate with you in our own way wherever we are.

He will be missed!

Love you guys.

Sean taught me so many fun things… fantasy football… always gave me a cheat sheet in poker..life lessons…always had good jokes… I can hear his laughs.. we spent many nights working next to each other… I will never forget Sean… who would always say “have you ever been beaten up by an old man?.. well I hear it’s pretty embarassing!!” Nikki, I pray that you can find peace and answers and I will continue to pray… I am so sorry …I love you both !!
