EWING, Sandra Jean Gittings, 71, of Moundsville, W.Va., passed away Thursday, January 16, 2014, at her home.

Sandi was born March 26, 1942, in Moundsville, a daughter of the late Kenneth and Marjorie Gribben Gittings. She was a retired employee of the Marshall County Courthouse; was treasurer of the Marshall County Development Authority The Barn; and was an active member of the Tuesday Arts Club.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. “Bill” Ewing.

Sandi is survived by her two children, Carl Ewing and Michelle Ewing of Moundsville; a brother, Carl Gittings and his wife, Valerie of Fairmont, W.Va.; a sister, Sharon Simms and her husband, Michael of Wilmington, Ohio; five grandchildren, Josh Ewing and his wife, Amanda, Zach Ewing and his wife, Kara, Carly and Michael Martin, and Mindy Moore, all of Moundsville; and seven great-grandchildren, Hunter, Fischer, Remington, Blake, Dakoda, Kenny and Dalene.

Friends will be received from 12-3 & 5-8 pm, Sunday at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, Lutes & Kirby-Vance Chapel, 118 Grant Avenue, Moundsville, where services will be held at 1 pm, Monday, January 20, 2014.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Marshall County Animal Shelter, Rd. 5, Box 210, 12th Street, Moundsville, WV 26041.

Sandra and I attended school together at MHS and I have a lot of fun memories of her from those years. My thoughts and prayers go out to Sandra’s family during this difficult time.
