My condolences to the family of Sam and Ann Warbel. I will always remember the fun times keeping the mines and employees all working together. Ann providing lunches for the office staff with her famous pierogi. Sam’s dry wit yet steady resolve concerning all of us. Truly a sad day. He will be missed and long remembered. Since I spoke with him only a few months ago, its a reminder to all of us to reach out and keep in touch a little more.

Our heartfelt condolences to Sam and Dan, their families and all of Sam’s relatives.

Forty- five years ago,I went to work for Sam as his assistant in my first job at North American, and he quickly took me under his wing and became my mentor for not only learning the ropes of coal mining, but also for learning many of life’s lessons in general. He was and still is a perfect role model for me and many others whose life he touched.

Pam and I will miss him. He was a great friend. May he rest in peace.

Reading all these loving comments about your parents did not just happen – they were truly earned. They were perfect neighbors and friends and we are positive perfect parents. From your father’s landscaping advice to your mother’s bakery – they will be truly missed. Our deepest condolences are being sent.

Sam was the consummate professional leader, slow to anger and quick to forgive. He was the person you could always count on and a great mentor to so many in the mining profession. Even when things turned upside down, he was steadfastly the man’s man. I and many many others will miss him greatly.

His Christmas artistry was a fantastic other side to a man who gave his whole career to the management and safety of the mines and miners. May he rest in peace and may his family be blessed in his memory.

Sympathies to the Warbel family from the Horvath’s – Norma & John, David, Danny & Diane. Your mother & my mother grew up together on the same street in Weirton. They graduated high school together in 1949. Your Mom was in my Mom’s wedding in 1950. Your Mom & Dad married some years later. I attended their wedding with my parents & older brother. Over the years I remember seeing their annual Christmas family photo which included more children and grandchildren over the years. Your Mom & Dad attended my Mom & Dad’s 50th wedding anniversary in Florida in 2000. That was the last time I saw them. I think my Mom saw them at a class reunion after that. Your Dad wrote a note to my folks last Christmas with the family picture. He’s very proud of his family. I wish you all peace and comfort.

To Sam’s family…..My Dad ZackRom Zacchini knew Sam as a best friend and working partner for all the years they were both affiliated with the mining industry. We grew to love Sam and Ann like family members and enjoyed their visits immensely. They both were truly wonderful and loving people and Sam will be so missed. I marveled at the way he stayed so vital and busy even after Ann’s death. Think of them now together again and that someday, you will all be reunited once more. We truly admired Sam and Ann so much and your loss is shared by our family more than we can say. They shall live on in the awesome legacy they left for all the lives they touched. Love and prayers,

To Sam’s sons Sam and Dan, and all of Sam’s family, you have our condolences and our prayers are with you all at the time of the loss of a loved one. I first met Sam and Ann when I was a fourth grade teacher in Powhatan and both of his sons were in my classroom. We also lived just down the street from Sam and Ann. Later I worked for North American at #5, #1, and finally at #7. Sam was really a very nice person and I never heard an unkind comment about him. He will be missed by everyone who knew him and even more so by his family.
