Sachico Balon, Norfolk, 74

Mrs. Sachiko Balon nee Miyata passed away at her home in Norfolk on January 4, 2007 after a long illness.
Mrs. Balon was born in Miyazaki, Japan in 1932. She met and married Carl Balon YNC of the United States Navy and immigrated to the United States in 1960. She resided in Norfolk for the past 47 years and was active in the Japanese community in that area and was a member of the Sakurakai Club.
Mrs. Balon was preceded into death by her husband Carl in 2000. She is survived by her daughter, Doris Balon Harris of Norfolk, VA, sisters Ritsuko Miyata and Katsuko Miyata of Miyazaki, Japan, grandchildren Matthew Harris and Kelley Harris of Norfolk as well as a large group of devoted friends.
A memorial service will be held at the Altmeyer Funeral Home Virginia Beach chapel on Saturday, January 13, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. A reception at Altmeyer will follow the service. Mrs. Balon will be interred with her husband at Arlington National Cemetery on January 24th 2007 at 2 P.M. Internet condolences can be placed via postings at altmeyer.com. So sorry to hear of your loss. Your mother was always very kind to me. Please know that you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. Mom and I will not be able to attend the service on Saturday, but please call me if you need anything 538-0170.
