YAHN, Ruth A. Stenger, 97 of Wheeling, WV, passed away peacefully at the Hillsview Personal Care Home on November 14, 2011.
She was born November 14, 1914 a daughter of the late William S. and Sadie Smith Stenger of Wheeling.
Ruth was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Academy for Woman, Class of 1932.
She persued her dream of Registered Nursing at the North Wheeling Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in the Class of 1937.
She was also very gifted as a wonderful homemaker and personal secretary to her husband Harry, in their Electrical Contracting business.
Ruth loved to read, do crossword puzzles, sew and put up canned foods from their home garden; while keeping current on social and political news and events.
Ruth was our family nurse who looked after every one of us who asked for her loving help and care.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William S. and Sadie Smith Stenger; two sisters, Sarah Stenger Burriss and Gertrude Stenger Chison; and two brothers, Ralph L. Stenger and Dr. Fr. William Stenger.
Surviving is her only son, Harry V. Yahn III and his wife Judith of Wheeling; two granddaughters, Cynthia Yahn Lewis and Diane Yahn Coleman, both of Wheeling; nine great-grandchildren, Adam, Brenden, Chelsea, Ethan, Mary, David, Sarah, Leah and Anna; two sisters, Blanche Stenger Naegele of Wheeling and Angela Stenger Deegan of Sarasota, FL; and many nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to Ms. Ester and staff at the Hillsview Personal Care Home in Claysville, PA; and Nurse Nancy and staff of Amedisys Hospice Service of Canonsburg, PA.
Family and friends will be received 6-9 p.m. Sunday, November 20, 2011 at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 154 Kruger Street, Elm Grove, Wheeling.
Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at 12Noon Monday, November 21, 2011 at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, Wheeling, with Rev. Gary Naegele as celebrant.
Entombment in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling.
