Roslyn K. Ascher

VIRGINIA BEACH- Roslyn K. Ascher, known to her many friends as Rachel, returned to the Light on April 30, 2008. Those who knew that she was a night owl and that she meditated in the wee hours of the morning were not surprised that she lifted off at precisely 4a.m.

Rachel recently chose to travel to New Jersey to be near her beloved son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Judith Ascher and her sister, Shirley Miletta, her only remaining relatives.

Born March 13, 1922, Rachel lived a full and adventurous life. She was interested in everything! An avid reader, writer, artist and Hawaiian transplant, she settled in the College Park section of Virginia Beach and lived for many years at Beth Sholom Sands. Known for wearing bright colors, large wire-rimmed glasses and an easy laugh, she leaves behind a host of special friends including the nurses and office staff of the Citizens’ Committee to Protect the Elderly, her beloved Humanitarian Visitors, Virginia Acedo, R.N., Sandra Daniels, Paul Munley, and Pam Lichtenstein as well as special friends, Sherry Colson, Shelly Burgess, Valerie Harvey and Pam Guthrie who “got” her.

Rachel, like the wine she sipped, was an acquired taste. But oh, was she worth it! We will miss her courage, her fortitude and her outrageous sense of humor. Bon Voyage, Dear Friend!

Rachel and her family request that memorial donations be sent to CCPE, P.O. Box 3, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23458.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2008 at 2:00pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Road, Virginia Beach.

I will pray for Tom and for all his family during their time of loss. And I will happily remember all the fun and laughs I had with Tom while together St. Charles.
