Rolf Nelson

Virginia Beach – Rolf Nelson, 84, passed away on Thursday January 26, 2012 in Virginia Beach General Hospital. He was born in 1927 to the late Torolf and Birgit Nelson in Brooklyn, NY. He proudly served his country in the Marine Corps during WWII and The Korean War. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 57 ¾ years; Evelyn, his children; Rolf Nelson, and his wife Anita of Pattison, TX, Randi Streufert and her husband, Frank of Chattanooga, TN, Kristi Marquardt, and her husband Kris of Long Grove, IL, and Wendi Phelan, and her husband Neil of Virginia Beach, VA, and a brother-in-law; John Valand of Shokan, NY. Also surviving are his grandchildren; Peter Nelson and his wife Karie, Anne Burns and her husband, T.J., Mary and Emma Nelson, Kari and Dana Streufert, Lauren and Nikki Marquardt, Tara and Matt Phelan, one great-grand child, Adelaide Nelson. Additionally, Mr. Nelson is survived by many family members and friends locally, and in Norway. He is predeceased by a brother; Kenneth Nelson, a daughter; Kori Jeanne Nelson, and a grandson; Erik Streufert. Rolf and his wife Evelyn, are members of St. Michael Lutheran Church in Virginia Beach. He was very involved in the church and participated in many of their activities. Mr. Nelson was a proud and loving grandfather, and he loved doing special things for his grandchildren when he was able to spend time with them. He was always a child at heart, and he was able to show it with the grandkids around him. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday January 31, 2012 at 11:00 am in St. Michael Lutheran Church, 2208 Princess Anne Rd. Virginia Beach, VA 23456. Rolf requested contributions be made to St. Michael in lieu of flowers. Altmeyer Funeral Home is assisting the family.
