Roderick Horace Rushford
Roderick Horace Rushford, Virginia Beach, born June 10, 1930 in Lowell, VT, died March 29, 2015. He is survived by who he called the love of his life, Caroline “Corky” C. Thrasher, and her family that loved him as their own; Danny and Kim Thrasher, Warren and Deb Thrasher, and Caroline Jr. and Donald Smith, five grandchildren and their spouses, and five great-grandchildren. Rod loved his family, and his chosen brother Bill Colonna.
He spent 28 years in the U.S. Air Force and traveled the globe, and for the last 10 years, he and Corky danced across the world. The two literally foxtrotted under a bridge in Paris, did the Tennessee waltz in Tennessee, and enjoyed their last waltz at the Homestead Resort in Virginia on Christmas Eve 2014.
After retiring from the Air Force Rod worked at Superior Equipment in Chesapeake until retiring again.
He was dedicated to the Khedive Shriners and the Elks Lodge No. 38 in Norfolk. He enjoyed his Shriner golf game every Tuesday with Jack, Ray and Jim. He loved fishing from his front yard at Blackwater and playing with his great-grandchildren. He will live on in Corky’s heart forever, and remembered always by his Thrasher family.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6:00pm until 7:30pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Chesapeake. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www. Altmeyer.com.
