Robert Lincoln Bowden, 91, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2013, at Heritage Hall. Robert, endearingly called “Uncle Robert” by his nieces and nephews, was a quiet, gentle man who loved his family. He was born August 5, 1922, in Kansas and was a long time resident of Norfolk, VA. Robert is survived by his nieces: Rebecca Ellis of Virginia Beach, VA who was his devoted and loving caretaker, Lizabeth Anne Spikes and husband Hank, of Wasilla, AK, Roberta Allen of Huntsville, TX, his nephews: William Caten and Judy of Virginia Beach, VA, Lynn Allen and wife Elizabeth of Waxahachie, TX, three great nephews, seven great-great nieces and nephews, and half-sister: Sharon Bowden of St. Augustine, FL. Robert was predeceased by his parents: Howard T. and Etta Ireland Bowden and his sisters: Mary Etta Caten and Jeanette Allen.
Robert was a man of devout faith who knew the Bible well. He enjoyed attending and participating in his Sunday School class at Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church in Norfolk. Robert served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was a plasterer by trade. He was also a long time employee of Kempsville Meadows Golf Course in Virginia Beach. He enjoyed the game of golf and desired to be a professional golf player in his younger years.
A graveside service will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk on November 21, 2013 at 10:00 AM with Chaplain Ruby Fields of Heartland Hospice officiating.
