COLEMAN, Robert L., 79 of Indiana Street, Wheeling, W.Va., died Friday, Sept. 14, 2001, at home.
He was retired from Wheeling Downs; a member of the former Blessed Trinity Catholic Church, Wheeling; and a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Wheeling. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, he volunteered to raze and rebuild ships; when he returned he enlisted and is an Army veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William H. and Elizabeth A. Sprucebank Coleman; two brothers, W. H. ”Buddy” Coleman and Richard E. Coleman; three sisters, Odetta Armstrong, Dorothy St. Meyer and Nellie Owings.
Surviving are two brothers, Edward A. Coleman and W. Harold Coleman, both of Wheeling; a sister, Alice M. Gilson of Wheeling; 22 nephews and nieces; several great-nephews and nieces; several great-great-nephews and nieces.
Friends invited to attend funeral liturgy with Mass at 10 a.m. Monday, September 17, 2001, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, with the Rev. Patrick Condron as celebrant. Interment in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Alphonsis Catholic Church Building Fund.
