Robert J. "Bob" Shutler, 80, of Mt. Olivet, Wheeling, WVa., died Wednesday, March 19, 2003 in Wheeling Hospital. He was born April 18, 1922 in Proctor, W.Va., a son of the late Fred and Clara Frohnapfel Shutler.
He was a retired employee of the U.S. Postal Service, where he served 21 years as superintendent vehicle maintenance. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Elm Grove, Wheeling; a veteran of the U.S. Army in World War II; and served with the West Virginia National Guard. Bob was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees Chapter 567; a member of Mt. Olivet Senior Citizens; a life long member of the Cave Club; and a past member of the Elm Grove Eagles.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, William "Billy" Shutler; four brothers, Edmund, Herbert, Charles and Eugene Shutler.
Surviving are his wife, Pearl Nolte Shutler; a son, Robert J. Shutler, Jr. of Glen Easton, W.Va.; a daughter, Janet Shutler of St. Clairsville, Ohio; two brothers, Dale Shutler and his wife Theresa, of Wheeling and Urban Shutler and his wife, Evelyn, of St. Clairsville; a sister, Edith Fahey of Wheeling; three grandchildren, Joseph Andlinger, Jr., Jennifer Turkington and her husband, Thomas, and Jarrod Andlinger; several nieces and nephews.
Friends received 7-9 p.m. Saturday, noon to 3 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 154 Kruger St., Elm Grove, Wheeling.
Funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, March 24, 2003 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Elm Grove, with the Rev. H. Joseph Wilhelm, S.M. as celebrant. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling.
Vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Hall Building Fund, 2244 Marshall Ave., Wheeling.
