Norfolk; Robert Eugene Mericle, 78, passed away Thursday, August 3, 2006 in Norfolk at a local hospital.

Mr. Mericle was born February 10, 1928 the son of the late Frank and Gladys Mericle. His wife Hannah EW Mericle passed away before him. He served ten years in the US Navy and was a veteran of WWII and Korea having earned the Purple Heart. He retired from Civil Service. Mr. Mericle was a member of the Kempsville Church of Christ. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid fan of the Old Dominion Ladies Basketball team.

He is survived by a daughter, Diane CW Mericle of Norfolk; a brother Richard Mericle of Finlaysan, Minnesota and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted Monday at 11:00 AM at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Road Virginia Beach. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00 PM till 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Condolences may be send to the family at altmeyer.com.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this time of sorrow. Your Mom and Dad are together now, they can watch the Lady Monarch games together again. Our memories of them at the ODU games will last forever. We had quite a few good times with them. Take care, Kurt and Faith Longsworth
