Hammond, Robert E., 83, of Wheeling, WV, died Friday, February 28, 2014 in Peterson Hospital, Wheeling.
He was born May 4, 1930 in Wheeling, a son of the later Edgar and Anna Kasun Hammond.
He was a retired coal miner with Consol Energy; a Christian by faith; and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Edgar Hammond, Jr. and William Hammond; three sisters, Wanda Michaels, Dolores Hammond and Carol Hammond.
Surviving are three nephews, Edgar Laura Hammond, Andrew Tina Hammond and Roger Cindy Hammond, all of Moundsville.
Friends received 2-4 & 6-8 pm Tuesday at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, South Wheeling Chapel, 3828 Jacob St., Wheeling, where services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, March 5, 2014 with Rev. Glen Baker, Jr. officiating.
Interment in Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling.

Bob Hammond took art classes with my late husband, Karl Jacobson. I remember him as being very interested in the structure and design of drawings and paintings. He was a good man.
