DiRemigio, Ralph, 74, former Mayor of the City of Moundsville, went to be with our Lord on Thursday, March 6, 2008, following a courageous and exemplary battle with heart disease and diabetes.
He was born August 15, 1933 in Follansbee, WV, a son of the late Andrew and Amy DiGiacinto DiRemigio.
Ralph grew up in Follansbee, where he graduated from Follansbee High School. He attended West Liberty State College, where he studied business. He also served in the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Germany with the 101st Airborne Division.
While attending WLSC and employed by Pittsburgh Plate Glass, he met and married Aletha Morris. They had two children together and were married over 47 years.
Ralph is survived by his wife, Aletha, who loved him deeply, and a family that includes: a daughter, Tionna Baker and her husband, Brad, of Katy, TX; two sons, Joseph DiRemigio and his wife, Kelly, of Harrison City, PA and Mark Robinson and his wife, Norma, of Moundsville; two granddaughters, Aubrey and Kelsey Baker; two grandsons, Seth and Adam Robinson; a brother, Andrew DiRemigio of Follansbee; two sisters, Dora Branch and her husband, Art, of Follansbee, and Joann Balta of Washington, PA. He will also be sadly missed by many nephews, nieces and their children. Like family, his best friend, Joe Belch, of Mobile, Ala. is to be honored by mention.
Ralph dedicated many years to the growth and enrichment of Moundsville. His dedication and interest in the city’s development was of the utmost importance to him. He served the City of Moundsville as Mayor from 1973-1975, 2000-2002, 2004-2005; as Vice-Mayor from 2002-2003, 2005-2006. While serving Moundsville in both these positions, he congruently held the position of Councilman at Large, and did so until his death. He stood on principle and never wavered. He was known and respected by many. His loyalty and perseverance as a public servant was evident by all that he accomplished for the city. DiRemigio Drive, a street located at the entrance of the new Water Treatment Plant in Moundsville, is a standing tribute to his service.
Ralph was a past President and Lifetime Member of the Marshall County Fair Association; the Garibaldi Lodge; Parent Teacher Association; served as former President of the Marshall County Planning Commission; Wheeling Life Underwriters; Moundsville Football League; Fast Pitch Softball League. He served as Vice-President of the Marshall County Activities Development Authority.
He was a proud lifetime member of the VFW; the American Legion; Moundsville Lions Club; PIC; Moose; Project Best; and Peppers Association. Ralph also served as former Assistant State Fire Marshall for the West Virginia State Penitentiary.
Mr. DiRemigio was a retired Sales Manager of Green Tab Publishing of Moundsville, and worked for many years as the Top Producing Insurance Agent in the country for Peoples Life Insurance of Wheeling.
Ralph was an avid sportsman and enjoyed and excelled at track, football and softball. He had a passion for local high school sports, especially football. He also enjoyed photography and public speaking. Ralph was enthusiastic about every business venture and office held.
Friends received 3-9 pm Sunday at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Lutes & Kirby Vance Chapel, 118 Grant Ave., Moundsville, where services will be held at 11:00 Monday, March 10, 2008, with Rev. Ron Price officiating.
Interment in Riverview Cemetery, Moundsville. The Moundsville Honor Guard will conduct military graveside services.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Huntington’s Disease Society of America, 505 Eighth Avenue, Suite 902, New York, NY 10018.

Alethea, Tionna, Joe and Families,

I just learned today. I am so sorry we couldn’t be there with you. I remember with such fondness the lives we had together. Almost 50 years! When we would get together or talk on the phone in recent years, it was like we had never been apart. I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers and will try to call soon. Ralph was so special and we will never forget him.

Much Love,

The Bounds Bunch

Dear Aletha and Family,

I was so sorry to hear about your loss. Your Ralph was such a wonderful caring man and did so many great things in his life! I remember him from when I was growing up…his big smile and bigger than life personality. He ALWAYS made me feel special! Even as I grew to have my own family, when I saw him, he always recognized me and told my children stories about my life as a child. There was somthing special about him…he always made me feel special. I hold you all in my prayers and send my deepest sympathy to you. Sincerely,

Dear Aletha, Tionna and Joey…

…I am so sorry to hear about Ralph. I cannot think about my childhood without thinking of your dear family from across the street., Aletha..cooking supper in the kitchen with her color coated cabinets..Joey setting on the floor playing with his toys as a toddler., and Tionna with my little sister, Reba, playing so hard running in and out of the house. And then there was Ralph, coming home from work.. pulling up with his big, huge car in front of the house, then walking through the front door and as always with a BIG BRIGHT SMILE and a HUGE HELLO!…all dressed in black..think of a more proper Johnny Cash..that was Ralph! :- and just so overwhelmingly HAPPY to be home to his family! Well, all of those years..prepared him for this one moment..to finally be home, really home, in the arms of our precious Saviour., face to face with God, our Creator, who loves him and loves us all far more than we could ever know or comprehend in a million life times! I am sure up there in heaven, God will allow Ralph to do more than just dance on them streets of gold! Before we know it..he will be assigning Ralph to repave those streets of gold in more precious gold and silver, thus having his own section of mansions! well..only kidding! But, I am sure if there is a way to make heaven that much more spectacular, it will be because of Ralph!! And you know what.. just maybe a small fragment of heaven will be like the days of long ago.. when we were kids..as Reba and mom are now there also, singing along and joining in with the Angelic choirs of Heaven to celebrate and welcome him home! All my love and prayers are with you… God Bless you all and if there is ANYTHING we can do..please do not hesitate to ask. We are just an email away.Donna Anderson and Dave Blakemore and my children, Joshua, Jade Danielle Henderson Joel and Andrew Thomas and Taylor JosiahReba’s 15 yr.old son thatI am now raising.. along with her older sons, Brandon and Christopher, Terra and her children, Bernie and Mandy, and Dad Elza Andy Anderson and his wife, Rev. Joyce Anderson.

I am sorry you lost your dad. When I read about his life and all he did with his life it really impacted me. Here is a man who was dedicated to serving his community and he made a huge difference. I didn’t know your dad, but I learned something about how I should live my life by his example.

You should be proud of him. I am sure you miss him

My Uncle Ralph was the one of the most if not the most influential people I knew. He had a passion for everything he did in life, whether it be teaching me how to come out of blocks using sticks in my side yard during track season or telling stories of his colorful life in the dining room during random family get-togethers. Everyone who met him that I was friends with also called him “Uncle Ralph” no matter what. I remember him telling me when I used to run track to “Never focus on anyone else around you, just focus on you winning the race” and I keep that in mind in my everyday life tasks. He was a phenomenal human being whom I will miss dearly. I wish I could join everyone back in WV for the funeral but I will not be able to make it due to weather. I miss everyone from the family and I just want to let you know, I will be there in spirit, even though I’m in Missouri now. Love you guys and you’ll be in my thoughts and prayers!

Sincere sympathy to all of the DiRemigio family. My parents bought life insurance from him when I was a child back in the 70’s. He was always so friendly and gave me and my siblings Necco wafers. Your hearts may be heavy now, but you will rejoice when you see him again.
