Newport News – Philip Hairston Seawell died in his home in Towne Square Condominiums,
Newport News, Tuesday, October 7, 2008.
Mr. Seawell was born on West Avenue, Newport News, in 1915 and attended Catholic school and was a 1933 graduate of Newport News High School. He graduated from the College of William And Mary in 1937. He was an attorney in Newport News.
Mr. Seawell was active in organizations such as First Families of Virginia, American Friends of Lafayette, Yorktown Day Association, Gloucester Historical Society, and Newport News Public Libraries and served as an officer in these organizations.
Mr. Seawell was preceded in death by his parents, Isabella Brady Seawell, formerly of Staten Island, NY and John Tyler Seawell, Boatmaster at C&O in Newport News, and formerly of Gloucester, VA.
Mr. Seawell is survived by cousins, Eleanor King Lewis of Montpelier, VA and Cora King Mueller of Charleston, SC respectively. Mr. Seawell also has New York cousins.
A graveside memorial service at the Seawell family plot at Ware Church, Gloucester, VA will be held at a later date.
