I am mother-in-law to younger Peter and only met Peter K. at St. Simons Island one time. Peter K. had to be a good father to have such a good son. I cannot praise his son enough for accepting my daughter and her three children. He was good for them all.

I have fond memories of Pete from high school in Nurnberg, Germany. I especially remember a kind, sweet note he wrote in one of my annuals. That was the type of person he was. I was saddened to learn of his death. Condolences to his family and many friends.

I remember meeting Uncle Pete for the first time in 1996. He was bigger than life, but I didn’t find him imtimidating. Instead I found myself wanting to spend more time with him and the family. He had a way of making everyone feel at home. Somewhere along the way he became “Petey” to me and he never complained when I called him that. A few months ago I was told how much he hated that name and didn’t tolerate anyone but me calling him that. Hearing that made me feel even more special. He had a way of doing that with people. He was an inspiration to many and I am sure he will be missed by more people than any of us are aware of.

I’ll miss you “Petey”, I love you.

It was my pleasure and honor to know Pete at Nurnberg American High School during our senior year 1958-59. I admired his athletic ability and friendly personality. I recently had the opportunity to talk with both Pete and Lore, to rehash old memories, and rekindle the warmth of our high school years. May God grant Pete fair skies and a following wind, and the rest of us the ability to understand God’s purpose in taking Pete from us at such an early age.

Pete always told me to “Keep Smiling”. That was real good advice and I give the same advice to all my friends. My heart goes out to his family and loved ones. Pete touched everyone he met in a speacial way and he will be greatly missed.

Pete was a fair and caring person—He showed love and patience to those around him and gave of himself unselfishly. He taught me how to handle difficult situations and how to treat people with kindess and patience. I will miss him for he was a true mentor. I know he will be with me always as he is in my heart. It was a pleasure to work with him and to know him. I will remember him as a true friend and a wonderful father, husband and family man. Thank you for everything Pete. I will never forget the special times we shared and all the things you taught me about life.

Pete was a thoughtful and wise man. “Keep Smiling” was probably one of the first things Pete said to me. Linda, to you and your loved ones my condolences. It is a privilege to have known Pete and to know all of you.

PeteâÄôs death seemed sudden to me. I remember the day I heard the news, I simply could not believe it. Pete was too young, I thought, but we are all of an age where many of our friends will leave us too soon. Then it occurred to me, that Pete lived his life to the fullest. I will forever be grateful to have known Pete. I am grateful that Pete and I met at the right place and at the right time. For two years, he was my roommate in the dorm, at a formative time in my life and I will forever be grateful for having known him. All the memories I share with him will forever be cherished and remembered. Pete will live in my heartâÄ_ In our hearts.

Pete will be missed, but I know in the right time, I will meet him again. We will all meet Pete again and heâÄôll make us laugh through our tearsâÄ_.

To Daddy Pete:

You were a wonderful person and you are being missed very much. I hope that, wherever you are now, you can keep an eye on Matthew, Mark, David, Mikie and Linda. I would have wished that you had got to know my parents, I think you guys would have had a blast together:

I thought you would have liked the poem below, I think it is beautiful, it’s the same one I used for my Mama…

In liebender Erinnerung,

Love you, yours Mark and Susanne

Death is nothing at all

I have only slipped away into the next room

I am I and you are you

Whatever we were to each other

That we are still

Call me by my old familiar name

Speak to me in the easy way you always used

Put no difference into your tone

Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow

Laugh as we always laughed

At the little jokes we always enjoyed together

Play, smile, think of me, and pray for me

Let my name be ever the household word that it always was

Let it be spoken without effort

Without the ghost of a shadow in it

Life means all that it ever meant

It is the same as it ever was

There is absolute unbroken continuity

What is death but a negligible accident?

Why should I be out of mind

Because I am out of sight?

I am waiting for you for an interval Somewhere very near

Just around the corner

All is well.

Nothing is past; nothing is lost

One brief moment and all will be as it was before How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again!

We first met Peter in 1980 on a trip to visit family in the D.C. area. He and Linda were dating at the time and Peter let us use his car for the whole time we were there. To us, that was an act of generosity that we’ve never forgotten. He had a heart as big as himself, was a man of great humor and always made us feel welcome. He will truly be missed. Go with God, Pete.
