SYRYLO, Pete, 82, of Wood Street, Wheeling, died Saturday, August 14, 2004 in Ohio Valley Medical Center, Wheeling.
Pete was born March 10, 1922 in Wheeling, a son of the late William and Eva Wolis Syrylo.
He was retired from the B&O Railroad, after 42 years of service; was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Ukrainian Catholic Church, Wheeling, and was a decorated US Army Veteran of WWII, being awarded the Bronze Star, good conduct medal and the Purple Heart.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Millicent Childs Syrylo and four brothers, Alex, John, Michael and George, his twin brother.
Surviving are his four children, Ronald P. Syrylo and his wife Marggee, Charles D. Syrylo, Karen Asbury and her husband Ray, all of Wheeling, and Linda Sue Chaplin and her husband Adam of Pittsburgh, PA; eight grandchildren; Ron Syrylo and his wife Brooke of Lansing, OH, Brian and David Syrylo of Wheeling, Eric DiVenanzo, Amy Bennett and her husband Ron of Colliers, WV and Courtney, Hannah and Adam Chaplin of Pittsburgh, PA; and a brother, Bill Syrylo of Wheeling.
Friends will be received from 2 to 8 pm Tuesday at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 3828 Jacob Street, South Wheeling. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 11 am on Wednesday, August 18, 2004 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Ukrainian Catholic Church, Wheeling, with Msgr. Peter D. Waslo as celebrant. Interment in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling, where full military honors will be provided by the Moundsville Veterans Honor Guard.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 1131, Fairfax, VA 22038-1131.
