Pete Semanik, 90, of Powhatan Point, OH, formerly of Stratton and Mingo Junction, OH, passed away Sunday, February 24, 2008 at his home.

He was born March 10, 1917 in Smock, PA, a son of the late Peter and Mary
Duchak Semanik.

Pete was a former employee of International Paper in Washington, PA, and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant in the Army during WWII. He was the recipient of many honors, including the Bronze Star and Purple Heart with wounds in the Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe Campaigns. He was a member of the Mingo Junction American Legion Post 351.

In addition to his parents, Pete was preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve Stoddart Semanik in 1995, 3 sisters; Ann Gogan, Mary McKinnon and Julia Warbel and a step-son George R. Stoddart.

Surviving are a niece and brother in law; Stephanie and Steve Warbel with whom he resided, 2 sisters; Helen McGaffic of West Milton, OH, Marge Sam Kochan of Parma, OH, 2 nephews; Gary Karissa McGaffic and Tony Kochan, 3 nieces; Debbie Dave Aldrich, Natalie Al Torres, Kristine Joe Barney and great nieces and nephews. Also surviving is William Stoddart of Mingo Junction, Jack and Doris Fulton of Springfield, OH, Don, Nancy, Suzie and Scott Stoddart of Poland, OH, and several grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren fondly remembering him as “PAP PETE”.

Military graveside will be conducted by the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad on Saturday, March 1 at 1:00pm in Oakland Cemetery, Mingo Junction, OH.
