Pauline Anslow

January 23, 1941 - February 21, 2015

01/23/1941 - 02/21/2015

Pauline Anslow, 74, peacefully left this world on February 21, 2015 with her devoted daughter by her side. She was born in Manchester, England Jan 23, 1941 to the late Colin and Cissie Saunders. Pauline was a loving mother of two who played a pivotal and active role in their lives. She was a member of Temple Sinai in Newport News who regularly attended services and enjoyed giving back to the community whenever she could. Pauline loved being outside, especially on bright sunny days. While she enjoyed sunning herself, she was often found tending to her garden. This allowed her to feel some serenity, especially in the wake of losing her loving husband in 1993. She was a lover of animals who often cared for several cats, fed the birds even the squirrels and regularly donated to the ASPCA in addition to related animal charities. She was young at heart and always so full of life, eager to meet and chat with whomever gave her an audience. People found her to be delightfully charming, in part due to her lovely British accent, but mostly because of her disarming, full-hearted engagement. Pauline is preceded in death by her dear husband John Anslow, Jr. She is survived by her daughter Charlene Gilbert James; son Jonathan Anslow Kim; and grandchildren Miranda, Joshua, Matthew, and Jacob Gilbert as well as Lillian and Colin Anslow. A graveside service will be held Friday, Feb. 27, at 10am at Hampton National Cemetery Phoebus Addition, West County Street, Hampton, VA. Condolences may be made to the family at altmeyer.com. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that a donation be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in her name. Altmeyer Funeral Home, Denbigh Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
