LAFFEY, Paula Kaufman, 82, of Wheeling, died Tuesday, April 9, 2002, in Weirton Medical Center, Weirton, WV. She was born Nov. 11, 1919, in Wheeling, a daughter of the late August J. and Gertrude Hasenauer Kaufman. She was a retired illustrator and fashion artist with the former Stone & Thomas and L.S. Good Department Stores, Wheeling, and was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Wheeling. She was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Academy, studied at Chestnut Hill College, Philadelphia, PA, and the School of Advertising Art, Pittsburgh, PA, and was a Red Cross Volunteer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Genevieve Kaufman. Surviving are her husband, Patrick J. Laffey; two nephew, Martin T. Laffey and his wife Audrey of Wheeling, and Michael Laffey of Galway, Ireland; three nieces, Mary Laffey, Ann Laffey, and Theresa Laffey, all of Headford-Galway, Ireland; a great-nephew, Ryan J. Laffey of Wheeling; and a great-niece, Ashley N. Laffey of Wheeling. Friends received 2-4 and 6-8 pm Thursday at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 154 Kruger St. Elm Grove, Wheeling. Funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at 10am Friday April 12, 2002, at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wheeling, with the Rev. James Sobus as celebrant. Vigil service will be held at 6pm Thursday at the funeral home. Entombment in Hasenauer Personal Mausoleum, Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling.
