In the finest weavings of our lives that we delicately intertwine of gold and silver strands, a time has come with a strand of sorrow on Thursday, December 1, 2011, we lost our beloved Mother, Patricia Ann Mathews-Naples releasing her spirit to the Angels above.
Born on Flag Day-June 14, 1935, a lifelong resident of Wheeling, growing up on Wheeling Island with many friends where they had the time of their lives hanging out at Mathews Central. She was a 1953 graduate of Wheeling High School and a 1955 graduate of West Liberty State College of Dental Hygiene. She was an accomplished sales manager with Tupperware and Act II Jewelry of which, she was recognized in the highest capacity and also, spent 15 years working at Wheeling Downs in the Mutuals Department. She spent much of her retirement years taking care of her parents, entertaining and cultivating her lifelong friendships, visiting with her children in Illinois and California, as well as wintering in California.
Throughout her life, Patti made everyone she knew feel special. Her involvement with all the students of WPHS during her 20+ year tenure includes her passion as a teacher and administrating the School Store, traveling with the Drama Department to New York, her love of the High School Band and Athletics Department. It was the student body that gave her the pride of the red, white and blue being a WPHS Patriot herself.
She is survived by her children, Janet M. Sayers and Mr. John D. McCarthy of Carlsbad, CA, John J. and Amy A. Naples of Carlinville, IL, Judith K. Naples and Mr. Ashley V. Sargent of Wheeling, Robert M. and Nancy A. Naples of Normal, IL, Neil A. and JoAnne T. Naples of Peoria, IL, Patrick A. Naples of Wheeling, Susan E. Naples-Bendos of San Diego, CA, 13 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and her two furry felines, Zoe and Chloe complete the family. Also surviving is her sister, Harlean L. Carroll, her brother-in-law, Henry “Woody” Woods, both of Wheeling, including many nieces and nephews of the Slonaker and Carroll Families.
Preceding her in death, are her parents, Harley E. and Mary T. Pasquale-Mathews, her sister, Sara J. Slonaker-Woods, brother in law, George E. Carroll, her parent in-laws, John J. and Florence Naples, and her beloved cousin, Thomas J. Mathews, all of Wheeling.
As she will always remain within our hearts in all her glory of the red, white and blue – Mom is our “Spirit of ’76”.

Condolences to your family from another 1953 graduate of WHS. What a wonderful life Patti had.
Dear Family,
What a sweet lady, she will be missed by all at Wheeling Park High School. My own children have such fond memories of her, as well as myself. I remember going into the school store and helping her with crowd control just because I enjoyed her company. She could always make me laugh. She also gave great advice on raising children. I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers. Ms. Lucas Art Teacher WPHS
Dear Naples Family,
So sorry to hear of the passing of your mother. I have wonderful memories and remember her as my “first employer” assisting her when she brought the twins home from the hospital and sorting a dining room full of tupperware. I was just thinking of her the other day. My thoughts are with you all. She will be missed.
I am so very saddened at this great loss of my friend Patty Naples. We worked together at Wheeling Park High School for many years. I always tried to stop and see her in recent years, when I would visit Wheeling. She was a dear sweet person and always made one feel special. We had some wonderful years together and I will greatly miss her. You will all be in my prayers. Fondly Liz
I have many warm happy memories of my friendship with Patti. Her ever-present smile and desire to make others certainly including me feel comfortable and important; her generosity; her selflessness; her love for her family. Her passing is a true loss to me. My sincere sympathy to each family member; you were blessed.
I have very fond memories of Patty. She always had a smile on her face and made all feel welcome. Patty touched so many lives and will be sadly missed by all who knew her. There is a very special place in Heaven for Patty. My thoughts and prayers to the entire family.

I will always cherish the good times I have experienced with Patti. Her family was so important to her. I have never met a more caring and sharing person. She will be greatly missed. Her quote that she ofen made was “do something you like so well that you would do it for nothing and do it so well that you will be paid to do it.” What good information coming from an educator. Thanks for the memories. God bless the family.
Jan,
We love you and are thinking you. Your mother was a blessing to us all. We will remember her fondly.
Love,
Joe and Meg

The world has lost a beautiful person, but we have the memories of what may very well be one of the most kind, caring and generous souls. Miss Naples was never one to do anything but share in the triumph and lend a hand during the trials. She will always have a special place in my heart. Please know that my heart and prayers go out to your family during your time of grief.
With Sincerest Condolences,
Crystal Weiss-Omregcik
Those we love don’t go away,
They walk beside us every day,
Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear.
At this time of sorrow please remember that that you always be as close to your mom as your memory of her.
To the entire Naples family, my deepest sympathy and sincere condolences. God Bless.

With deepest sympathy, from our family to yours. Patty was such a kind, friendly, loving woman who took the time to CARE! I remember walking home from the bus stop, which was a mile away from home, in the rain and Patty ALWAYS offered me a ride. Cedar Lane was such a mud pit. She didn’t care if my shoes were covered in mud. She would roll down her window and yell, “Get in”. My Grandmother, Mary Lou thought the world of Patty…and so do I. My condolences for such a great loss. With love, Tammy Rob and Liam
