SACCO, Orlando A. 86, of Suncrest Avenue, Wheeling, died
Tuesday June 3, 2003 in Wheeling Hospital.
Orlando was born February 15, 1917 in Wheeling, a son of
the late Vincenzo and Gelsomia Palermo Sacco.
He was retired from CSX Railroad, formerly the B&O Railroad, Stores Department, Benwood; was a member of St. Joseph Cathedral, Wheeling; Received his High School diploma from Wheeling High School and attended Elliots School of Business. He was a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Carroll Council #504, Wheeling; Italian American Club, Wheeling; Sons of Italy, Bellaire; Garibaldi Lodge, Benwood, the Disabled American Veterans of Bellaire and a former member of the Wheeling Serra Club. He also was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, 6th Armored Division, where he was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge and the Bronze Star.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Melvin and Warren Sacco and two sisters, Vera Hyde and Helen Watt.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Virginia DeFazio Sacco; two sons, Lanny Sacco and his wife Carole of St. Clairsville, OH and Greg Sacco of Wheeling; a daughter, Gina Marie Wilson and her husband Dr. Robert Wilson, Jr. of Gaithersburg, Md; a brother, Oliver Sacco of Wheeling; five grandchildren, Kristin Smith and her husband Dale of Columbus, Oh, Kevin Sacco and his wife Lori and Megan Sacco, all of St. Clairsville, and Adrienne and Rachel Wilson of Gaithersburg and a great granddaughter, Caroline Smith of Columbus.
Friends will be received from1:00-4:00 and 6:00-9:00 pm Thursday at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff Street, Wheeling, where vigil services will be held at 7:00 pm Thursday evening. Friends will also be received on Friday from 10:00 until 11:45 am. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at Noon Friday June 6, 2003 at St. Joseph Cathedral, Wheeling. Entombment in Mt. Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, Wheeling.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to
American Heart Association or Catholic Charities Neighborhood Center.
